We Ship Semen

Pre-Breeding
Health:
If your the mare is going to be on our
premises, she will be required to have
4-way and rhino shots and a basic health
exam. This is for the safety of your
mare and/or foal and others that they
may come in contact with. However,
because of the time and expense involved
in the breeding and bringing a mare to
term, a thorough pre-breeding
examination (with culture and/or biopsy)
is highly recommended for all mares who
are going to be bred for the following
reasons: · To detect any abnormal
problems your mare may have, either
infectious or physical. This can include
maiden, as will as, producing mares.
Producing mares can develop problems at
foaling time, that can predispose them
to breeding problems. Maiden mares
occasionally have anatomical problems
that prevent breeding and conception. ·
An infected mare (not always detected
externally by discharge) will not settle
thus necessitating multiple unsuccessful
breedings, adding time and expense to
the procedure and failing to attain
pregnancy. · Physical problems in the
maiden mare can include persistent
membranes and undeveloped genital
organs. Physical problems in the
producing mare include tears and
lacerations incurred during foaling.
This is what you will have to do in
order to breed your mare by shipped
cooled semen:
1. Check your mare for
reproductive soundness. (See information
above.)
2· Call us (909) 926-5213,
(or e-mail horsetamer@verizon.net)
to ascertain the best method of shipping
to your area. We prefer Delta Dash
counter to counter if you have an
airport close enough to you. The cost is
a flat $65.00 and you will have the
semen the day that it is collected. If
there is not a convenient airport, then
Fed Ex or UPS overnight. We can then let
you know the exact shipping charges when
you call. Also give us an idea of when
you would like to breed your mare.
3· Email me to request a
breeding contract plus breeding fee
($350.00 for Nuevo Jake, $400.00 for
Heart B Breaker), shipping container
($30.00), and shipping fees (as
determined) and we will put you on our
shipping schedule. Let us know if you
want us to return a copy of the breeding
contract for your records .
4· It is helpful to be able
to tease your mare with a gelding or
nearby stallion. Knowing when your mare
is cycling can save on vet bills. When
your mare is in heat, you will need to
work closely with your veterinarian to
ascertain where your mare is in her
cycle and when she will ovulate. Call us
to alert us as soon as you know that
your mare is in heat. We can work
directly with your vet if it is more
convenient.
5· We need 24 hours notice
to ship. We collect early in the morning
and it takes us an hour to drive to the
airport. Please give us enough notice.
We will let you know when the shipment
is scheduled to arrive.
6· Your vet will inseminate
your mare. There will be two packets of
cooled semen. It is strongly advised to
use the first packet of semen within 24
hours of collection for the best chance
of pregnancy. If there is a delay the
entire container may be put into a
refrigerator to keep the temperature at
about 40 degrees F.
7· Have your mare checked
at 18 days after the last day bred. An
ultrasound test, if available, is the
best method to detect pregnancy. 30% of
all mares have false heats when they are
actually pregnant.
8· If the mare is not in
foal, you will be shipped semen as often
as necessary, throughout this breeding
season and a return privilege next
season. However, each additional
shipment will require a lab fee of
$100.00 plus shipping charge and
container cost. (You may reuse your
original container if you mail it back.)
9· In the event your mare
fails to conceive, you may substitute
another mare that you own (or lease) for
the remainder of your contract. Please
inform us of any intended change in
mares, so that we can adjust your
contract.
